Our department requires a working chief who actively performs all police/patrol functions. The police chief coordinates all staffing, scheduling, training and budgeting. Grant-application writing skills and community relations are important. Residency not required. Position appointed by the village president with the consent of the board of trustees. Riverwoods is a northwest suburb of Chicago. Its neighbors include Northbrook, Buffalo Grove, Lincolnshire and Deerfield. Minimum educational requirement is a Bachelor's degree; advanced police supervisor/administrator training (SPSC, SPI, FBI Academy) is preferred. Experience should demonstrate ability to maintain high standards of professionalism and community-oriented policing. Minimum of 5 years administrative/supervisor experience is required. The successful candidate must be, or be qualified to become, an Illinois Certified Peace Officer. The Police Department was created in October 2001. Current staffing is a Commander, Corporal, 4 full-time, 6 part-time officers and two part-time Records Clerks. Telecommunication is provided via an interagency contract. Riverwoods, due to size, has no police or civil service commission. Officers participate in IMRF with village employees. A police bargaining unit has been certified, and negotiations concerning a union contract are about to commence. Starting salary commensurate with qualifications. Health insurance and use of squad car included. Submit resume, cover letter with salary history and 5 references by March 31 to Village President, 300 Portwine Road, Riverwoods, IL 60015.
