The Caucus System in Riverwoods
What Is It? Why Is It? How Does It Work?

From The Mayor's Desk...

A Call to Serve in Your Local Government

The Riverwoods Caucus Advisory Council is asking for volunteers to serve on the new Nominating Committee. It is an excellent educational opportunity to see how Village politics work. The more residents who are willing to get involved in Village politics and government, the healthier our Village will be. I encourage you to consider volunteering for the nominating committee and if you don't get chosen, please make sure you come to the Caucus Interviews and Caucus Meeting in January which in essence could constitute the election. ( If no one else opposes the Caucus, which has actually happened in the past history of the Village). It looks like at this time there will be more than three people running for the three Trustee positions. Therefore, being a member of the Nominating Committee and/or attending the Caucus Meeting should be very interesting.

The following is a copy of a summary entitled "The Caucus System In Riverwoods" dated 10/98. The only change that I know of is that the Mayor now gets a salary instead of a minor stipend.
